PNNL provides innovative technology demonstration, deployment and technical assistance services to EERE's Weatherization and Intergovernmental Program Office to accelerate the adoption and implementation of building energy codes and the deployment of energy efficient technologies to a wide range of customers and stakeholders, including federal agencies, state and local governments, and international agencies. We work primarily with the following Weatherization and Intergovernmental Program Areas:

PNNL promotes energy-efficiency, clean production, and economic competitiveness by creating opportunities for Federal agencies, industry, and state and local entities to demonstrate and purchase of new energy-efficient technologies. We promote the construction and retrofit of energy efficient buildings by working on behalf of DOE with other government agencies, state and local jurisdictions, national code organizations, and industry to promote stronger building energy codes and assist with their adoption, implementation, and enforcement. PNNL creates independent energy efficiency centers in countries with economies in transition and through these centers test real-world approaches to mitigating greenhouse gas emissions.

A major area of support is our work with other government agencies, state and local jurisdictions, national code organizations, and industry to promote stronger building energy codes and help states adopt, implement, and enforce those codes. We help improve the energy efficiency of residential and commercial buildings by providing financial and technical assistance to help states adopt, implement, and enforce building energy codes. PNNL collaborates with stakeholders to address industry needs and provide information on compliance products and training and energy code-related news by encouraging the adoption of energy codes by states and local jurisdictions for the design and construction of new buildings and alterations and additions to existing buildings.

PNNL supports DOE and international agencies in the design and implementation of energy efficiency programs. Six independent energy efficiency centers were established with PNNL's assistance in countries with economies in transition. These non-governmental centers promote economic growth while mitigating its harmful effects, especially greenhouse emissions.
