PNNL Buildings Program
PNNL's Buildings Program seeks to reduce the energy intensity of our nation's buildings, while providing secure, healthy, and productive places to live and work. Our buildings currently consume about 1/3 of the total U.S. energy and about 2/3 of electricity generated. Significant technology development and application, deployment and planning and analysis products and services are provided through PNNL's Buildings Program to EERE's
- Building Technologies Program
- Weatherization and Intergovernmental Program
- Federal Energy Management Programs and
- Business Administration Office
PNNL's Buildings Program performs research and development supporting
- development and adoption of building energy codes and standards,
- development of advanced technologies for buildings such as solid state lighting and sensors and controls supporting advanced building and building equipment diagnostics and controls, and
- technology demonstration of energy efficient technologies.
Deployment of energy efficient technologies particularly in building operations and maintenance, commercial building space conditioning, and commercial and residential lighting to a wide range of customers and stakeholders including federal agencies, state and local governments, and international agencies represents a second focus area.
A wide range of planning and analysis services including economic and systems analysis supporting multi-year strategic planning and retrospective and prospective assessment of programmatic impact are provided in support of EERE's planning, budget formulation and analysis efforts.
PNNL provides substantial technology application and deployment services to other federal agencies, such as the General Services Administration, Army, and Marine Corps, enabling them to meet energy reduction goals mandated by the Energy Policy Act of 1992 and amended by subsequent Executive Orders.
