PNNL Buildings Program

Emerging Technologies Project

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is helping U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) implement its Emerging Technologies Program by:

1) developing and implementing competitive technology procurement programs that help product manufacturers to introduce new, advanced technologies to the market,

2) co-sponsoring design competitions in collaboration with industry to encourage market introduction of advanced products;

3) assisting manufacturers with late-stage technology refinements;

4) evaluating the field performance of advanced technologies in collaboration with large volume buyers of those technologies.

Our activities presently include work with reflector compact fluorescent lamps, high-efficiency recessed downlights, commercial unitary air conditioners, residential room air conditioners, solid-state lighting, and scotopically-enhanced fluorescent lighting. PNNL helps DOE and utilities develop and implement market transformation programs intended to cause lasting changes in the market for energy-efficient products and services.
